Who we are:
We are a team of individuals based in Seoul, South Korea dedicated to helping you find your favorite K-drama spots within South Korea. ROONA is an app we built to help you do so. If you have any question about our policy, your data or possible means to travel to any of the locations mentioned in our App, please email us at [roona.app.dev@gmail.com].
The short version:
- We collect what your account needs to work, and nothing for advertising.
- We do not track your location. The app has no access to your device’s location at all.
- We run no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no AI processing of your data.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, at any time, without asking us.
What we collect:
a. When you create an account
Depending on how you sign in:
| Sign-in method | What we receive |
|---|---|
| Apple | A user identifier, and the email address you choose to share (Apple lets you hide it) |
| Your name, email address and profile picture | |
| Kakao | Your Kakao account identifier and profile information you have shared with Kakao |
We also store the username you choose and the year of birth you enter (used only to confirm you are old enough to use ROONA — see Children below).
We do not collect phone numbers.
B. When you use ROONA
- Comments you post on filming locations
- Photos you upload to filming locations
- Chat messages you send in the LIVE chat rooms
- Likes on dramas and actors, and bookmarks on locations
- Location suggestions you submit (see below)
- Support messages you send us
C. Automatically
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications, so we can send you the alerts you asked for
- Standard server logs kept by our infrastructure provider, which include IP addresses, for security and reliability
What we do NOT collect:
- Your location. ROONA never requests or reads your device’s location. Every map in the app shows places of drama locations, not your location.
- Analytics. No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is installed. We do not measure how you use the app.
- Advertising identifiers. ROONA contains no advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- AI processing. ROONA does not process your data with AI or machine learning systems.
- Contacts, microphone, camera roll beyond photos you deliberately upload, or health data.
Your public profile:
When you create an account, other signed-in ROONA users can see your username, your profile picture and your K-Pulse score. Your profile picture is public and anyone using ROONA can see it next to your comments, photos and chat messages. If you would rather not show a picture, leave it unset and your initials are displayed instead.
Your likes:
The dramas and actors you like are private by default. If you turn on Settings → Show my likes, they appear on your public profile, and you can see the likes of other users who have also turned it on. Turning the setting off removes them from your profile immediately. You can change this at any time.
Photos and comments you post:
Photos and comments you add to a filming location are visible to everyone using ROONA. Chat messages are visible to everyone in that chat room. Please do not post anything you would not want a stranger to see.
We limit uploads to 5 photos per location and 50 per day per account, so that one person cannot fill a location’s gallery, and so reported content can be reviewed within a day.
Location suggestions:
If you suggest a filming location, we store the address or map point you chose, your description of the scene, and the account that submitted it. This is a place you tell us about — ROONA does not track your device’s location. Suggestions are reviewed by a person before they appear, and we may contact you about one.
Contacting support:
If you send us a question, we receive the name and email address you provide so we can reply. We use them only to answer you.
Who else sees your data:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We use these providers to run ROONA:
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase) | Database, file storage, sign-in, server functions | Everything described above |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple | Your Apple sign-in identifier |
| Kakao | Kakao Login, map display, address lookup | Your Kakao identifier; addresses looked up |
| Google Maps | Static map images | The coordinates of the map shown, not your location |
| Expo | Push notification delivery | Your push token and the notification content |
| Resend | Sending email notifications you opted into | Your email address and the message |
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect someone’s safety or to investigate fraud or abuse.
Where your data is stored:
ROONA’s database, files and server functions all run in Google Cloud’s Seoul region (asia-northeast3). Your data is stored in South Korea. Some of our providers may process limited data outside Korea in order to deliver a message or an email; where that happens we rely on the safeguards those providers offer.
How we protect it:
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and encrypted at rest (AES-256) by our infrastructure provider.
- We never see or store your password. Sign-in is handled entirely by Apple, Google or Kakao.
- Access rules prevent one user from reading another user’s private data.
We are honest about the limit here: no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but if a breach affects your personal data we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires, including under Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act.
How long we keep it:
- Your account data is kept while your account exists. Delete your account and it is gone completly (see below).
- Support emails are kept for up to 12 months so we can follow up.
- Server logs are kept for up to 90 days for security and reliability.
- We keep anything longer only where the law requires it.
Deleting your account:
a. Settings → Delete account permanently removes your profile, profile picture, username, comments, photos, chat messages, likes, bookmarks, notifications and any location suggestions you sent. b. If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to revoke the connection, so ROONA disappears from Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple on your device.
It cannot be undone, and you do not need to ask us ; it happens immediately, from inside the app.
Your rights:
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or stop processing it. You can withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect anything we did before you did so. Email [roona.app.dev@gmail.com].
If you are in South Korea, PIPA also gives you the right to access, correct, delete and suspend processing of your personal information, and to be notified of a breach. You may also file a complaint with the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) or the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
If you are in the EEA or UK, you additionally have the right to data portability and the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
Children
ROONA is not intended for children under 14, and the app asks for your year of birth at registration to enforce this. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the updated version with a new effective date. Where the change is material and the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before it takes effect.
